What happens when the life we are living is not the life we had hoped to live?
In life, we hold so many hopes and dreams for ourselves: a great job; amazing family and friends; the big house with a white picket fence; the perfect life.
The difference between expectations and reality is difficult to come to terms with. It’s in these moments that we have a choice to choose hope.
When we find ourselves scared, uncertain, or disillusioned due to challenging times, we often give up hope, rather than using hope as the light to help us to see new possibilities and move through the challenge in front of us. Without hope, we cannot trust ourselves to navigate life’s challenges, or take the steps needed to continue to pursue the life we want.
As the saying goes: “We only live once, but if we live well, once is enough.”
It’s never too late to create the life you want if you take the time to learn HOW!
Counselling Services Tailored to You
Every person who comes to counselling arrives carrying something different. The shape of what you are going through, and what you need from this work, is uniquely yours. Below are the areas I specialize in. Each service page goes into much more depth if you want to understand what working together on any of these might look like.
Grief Counselling
For people navigating loss in all its forms, from the death of a loved one to pregnancy loss, relationship endings, and the quiet grief of a life that has not gone the way you hoped.
Depression Counselling
For people carrying the weight of depression, whether it has arrived suddenly or been a quiet presence for years. Individual counselling that meets you where you are without pushing you past it.
Relationship Counselling
Individual counselling for people navigating relationship difficulty, whether you are trying to save a relationship, finding clarity about whether to stay or go, or moving through the end of something significant.
Body & Confidence
A weight-neutral, HAES-aligned approach to body image, self-esteem, emotional eating, and the relationship with your body and with food. Grounded in Intuitive Eating and genuine self-compassion.
Personal Crisis Counselling
For people in the middle of something that has overwhelmed their usual capacity to cope. Job loss, infertility, chronic illness diagnosis, emotional overwhelm, and the moments when life has asked more than you feel able to give.
Counselling For Women
Individual counselling built around the particular complexity of women’s lives: burnout, life transitions, identity shifts, fertility grief, caregiver exhaustion, and the pressure of carrying more than anyone around you can see.
Counselling Restores Hope
During these difficult times, it is so important to face the challenging emotions, overcome barriers, and find the meaning within the struggle. My entire practice is focused on finding and utilizing hope as a life skill to move through adversity.
Hope is the resource that shines light into darkness, allowing you to expand your awareness and see all the possibilities and options available to you. Every healing journey requires courage, willingness, an open mind, and an open heart.
The gift of hope allows us the resilience and enthusiasm needed to see and embrace the new possibilities that we so deeply desire and deserve. The gift of counselling shows you HOW!
Why Choose Katharine Hansen Counselling?
Katharine Hansen is a Kelowna-based counsellor offering individual counselling in person and online across BC. Her approach is warm, non-judgmental, and built entirely around the person in front of her rather than a fixed method or framework.
Katharine draws on a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Person-Centered Counselling, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Attachment-Based Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, and Somatic Experiencing. These are not techniques applied from a distance. They are ways of understanding human experience that help create the conditions for genuine change.
Her practice is grounded in the belief that every person who comes to counselling already has within them the capacity for healing and growth. Her role is not to fix or direct but to walk alongside, with honesty, with compassion, and with a deep and genuine commitment to your wellbeing.
Katharine works with adults navigating grief, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulty, life transitions, burnout, body image, and personal crisis. She sees clients individually and offers both in-person appointments in Kelowna and secure online sessions for clients across BC.
